Our research team brings together a highly skilled group of experts with the experience needed to successfully carry out this project.
- Prof. Ingeborg Welters – An experienced leader in research projects, including clinical trials and multi-centre studies.
- Dr. Brian Johnston – A leading expert in NOAF with international publications on its incidence, treatment, and diagnosis.
- Prof. Bronagh Blackwood & Dr. Ruaraidh Hill – Specialists in research methods, systematic reviews, and developing guidelines for clinical practice.
- Prof. Greg Lip – A world-renowned expert in Atrial Fibrillation (AF). He developed key tools used worldwide for assessing stroke and bleeding risks (CHA₂DS₂-VASc & HAS-BLED scores). His ABC pathway is a core part of the 2020 European AF guidelines.
Patient and Public Involvement (PPI)
We are committed to involving patients throughout the research process. Two patient representatives will play key roles:
- Mr. Keith Wilson – A professional patient ambassador with extensive experience in patient advisory panels and personal experience of cardiovascular disease.
- Trudie Lobban MBE – Founder and CEO of the Arrhythmia Alliance & AF Association, who has established over 40 heart rhythm organizations worldwide. She will help us reach and involve patients using a database of over 30,000 people with arrhythmias.
Together, our team combines scientific expertise, clinical experience, and patient perspectives to ensure that this research makes a real impact on the prevention and treatment of NOAF.
